- I am going to start by getting all my work stuff in order, and then branch out to personal stuff.
- This means I am going to have to create a new vault and then migrate the old vault into the new one, for both work and home.
# Lessons learned the hard way
- Creating the proper folder structure for even a simple project is tedious. This is no good for personal projects where I want to get down what I need quickly.

# Welcome to the manual for the 2026 Obsidian Vault!
This new and improved vault is effective August 1st 2026, and contains a lot of improvements over the previous vault. The biggest being Obsidian Bases, a built-in feature of Obsidian that replaces the community plugin Dataview. Another: AI tools to help make keeping notes and tracking thoughts easier. On the personal backend side of things, the biggest change is that this vault has critical folders stored in Git, so it can be edited anywhere and pushed/pulled into other vaults. Configuration changes, plugins, toolkit, and a bunch of other stuff is transferable with Git.
I am unsure what to write about next, so I'll put something down when I am ready.

To insert the tasks base into a project:
1. Open QuickAdd with `CTRL` + `A`
2. Type `Insert Tasks, the search result should be `Insert⸬Tasks`
3. Run
4. Go into the filters of the newly created base and modify per project requirements
5. Modify other aspects (like the columns shown) per project requirements
To start creating tasks:
1. In the project directory, open QuickAdd (`CTRL` + `A`) and search for Create⸬Task.
2. You will be prompted for a name, give it a sensible one that identifies the basic task scope and also how it falls into a sequence of tasks.
3. Once the note is created, if it is going to contain subtasks, then `Rick Click`, go to Folder Note Commands, and `click` the create folder note option.
Subtasks are inserted in much the same way. **However**, subtasks are intended to be the end of the structure and thus should never be folder notes.
Administrative note:
Quickadd `Insert⸬Tasks` inserts `99 Toolkit/Templates/Project-Dashboards/Tasks.base`.

Here is a description of data types to help me manage projects and stay organized.
# Project
The root of a project. Contains bases that can be used as a broad project management dashboard.
# Task
A type for organizing the steps of a project. Tasks can contain tasks, and tasks can contain subtasks. Tasks can also contain bases for getting an overview of that specific task's progress.
# Subtask
This type is for organizing the ultimate results of a task. For example, Project⸬Gardening can contain Task⸬Trees, Task⸬Vegetables, or Task⸬Succulents. Then, Task⸬Trees can contain Subtask⸬RakeLeaves, Subtask⸬CollectFruit, Subtask⸬TrimBranches, etc.
# Deliverable
The results of a task/subtask/project. Used to document that there is a physical result of the efforts of a task, and provides a space to make notes about it.
# Followup
Need to remember to do something later? That's what this type is for. It will automatically set the due date to the day it is created +7 days, and the due date tracker base in Project Management helps make sure nothing is forgotten.
# Resource
A special data type for organizing all the stuff that is required to make a project happen. For most projects, this is going to be things like reports, papers, books, videos, websites, etc., but it can also be things like tools and machines. This is a space to make notes about a resource. Because this has a lot of overlap with Knowledgebases, the general knowledgebase has access to there resource types in project folders. #todo make sure this is actually true.
## Resource-Related Types
There exists types for organizing resources. Here is how:
### Followup
Intended for things like "finish reading this" or "review section 1.5".
### Resource
Found a reference to something that should be reviewed later. Use the resource type within a resource for that. This will create a large bibliography in the project's resources base.
### Definition
Definitions are for keeping track of acronyms or terms that are important in a context.
